Know the market backdrop before a clean-looking setup costs you money.
Stocks, defensive assets, dollar proxies, and currency ETFs can reveal whether the broader backdrop is risk-on, risk-off, or mixed. This scanner turns cached Marketstack data into context—not a prediction. Skipping context is how a technically clean setup can become a trade taken in the wrong environment.
How to interpret this context
These cards describe market and ETF proxies, not live spot-FX prices or trade signals. Check each observation’s timestamp and source. If a value is missing, stale, or still loading, consult the source directly before using it.
- Choose the pair and horizon. Write down the base and quote currency and whether your question concerns minutes, days, or weeks. A broad dollar move can appear in opposite quote directions for EUR/USD and USD/JPY.
- Record observations first. Note what moved and when. Check the economic calendar and central-bank releases before proposing a cause. Correlation alone does not explain a move.
- Investigate disagreement. When proxies and the pair diverge, check the other currency’s news, spreads, and data freshness. A mixed picture is a valid reason to wait.
- Plan risk separately. Context provides no entry, stop, position size, or probability. Compare your broker’s live quote and your own risk plan before deciding whether to trade.
Hypothetical example
If a dollar proxy rises, equities fall, and a related ETF value is two hours old, record “mixed, incomplete context.” That combination cannot establish a reliable EUR/USD direction. Check the actual pair, spread, and next economic event. If the observations do not reconcile, the checklist can end with no trade.
Start with forex fundamentals and explore how a hypothetical stop changes units in the position size calculator. Leveraged FX can cause rapid losses.
Go deeper into today’s context
Dollar Strength
Review the broader U.S. dollar proxy before evaluating a currency pair.
Currency Strength
Compare exchange-traded currency proxies across recent momentum windows.
Turn today’s context into a complete trading workflow.
Chart the actual pair
The proxy board tells you where to look. TradingView is where you can inspect the actual currency pair, set alerts, compare timeframes, and test whether the setup still makes sense.
Cost of skipping this step: acting on broad market context without checking the actual pair can leave you trading a story instead of the chart.
Keep MT4 / MT5 running
If your workflow depends on MetaTrader, EAs, or always-on execution, a forex VPS can keep the platform running when your home computer is off or disconnected.
Cost of doing without: an automated setup is only automated while the machine running it stays online.
Compare broker platforms
Execution, platform tools, eligibility, fees, and market access matter after the research is done. Compare the broker choices already reviewed on Featured Forex.
Cost of choosing only by promotion: the wrong platform can add friction to every trade you make.
Write the trade before entering
The Trading Planner turns the idea into entry, invalidation, target, maximum loss, and review rules before emotion gets involved.
Cost of waiting: an unwritten plan is easy to rewrite after the trade starts moving against you.

Use the scanner as Step 1, not the whole trade.

Move to the Featured Forex position-size and pip-value tools before choosing a position.
3. Build the Plan
